rename localhost [solved]

Recommended Posts

Guest thomascon

Is it possible to change the computer name from localhost to something else like "thomascon456" without hosing the working system? And if it is possible what files would need to be edited?

I did not see this as an option while installing 2009.1. I tried search but could not find an answer.

Thank you,

If you want to edit the config file, it's /etc/sysconfig/network and in here you should have a HOSTNAME= entry which you can change from localhost to whatever you want. Also, make sure you edit /etc/hosts and put on the 127.0.0.1 line the new hostname, but don't delete localhost or localhost.localdomain as these are required in /etc/hosts.
