I'm curious a little about opening format Docx in OpenOffice 2.0

I searched through Net, they all use odf-converter after alienating RPM into Deb Pkg and make use of it.

Is it possible in our Mandriva?

I have Open Office 3.01 on Mandriva 2008.1, and I am able to open docx files with no problem.

If you launch Open Office from a terminal and attempt to open a docx file, are there any error messages reported in the terminal screen?

I can confirm that OOo 3.X does open docx documents, albeit with some quirks.

Currently using go-oo 3.1 rc, and it also opens docx without issues, but I think I will go back to "plain" openoffice: this thing crashes a lot, and I do not really need integration of crappy mono.

Did you install OO 3 from the Mandriva repos, or did you download the package from the site? I installed OO on my wife's XP netbook, and after installation I had to install a separate plugin to open docx files (the plugin was available on OO site). On the other hand, I installed OO on my Mandriva laptop from the repos, and it opens docx files without a problem.

You may be able to open a docx document with Go-OO's OpenOffice2.4 (the one that used to be in Mandriva before Go-OO's OpenOffice3) by renaming the file with the “.xml†extention instead. I open OOXML Excel files this way.

(There's a bug with column “Z†in Calc though… don't ask me why…)
