USB devices not being found after 2009.1 update

Since updating from Mandriva 2009.0 to 2009.1 I am experiencing USB problems. Seems that the software is unable to see the hardware. Originally I thought it was just my joysticks but digging further I see it also affects the Bluetooth dongle and the UPS power supply monitoring.

 

In all cases, after booting, the different applications are not able to see the USB device.

* the bluetooth icon doesn't pop up showing that the dongle is present and the bluetooth configurator reports that no device is present. Interestingly, if I unplug it and then plug it back in it shows up and works. This worked properly with 2009.0

* my APC Back-UPS ES cannot be found if I try to set up a UPS for monitoring. It worked properly with 2009.0

* neither my CH Products yoke or CH Products pedals can be found by X-plane. I then tried to set them up using jscalibrator and it can't find them either. These worked fine with 2009.0.

* scanner seems to work fine with X-sane.

 

So, it seems that the various applications can't see these hardware devices. However, it does look like they are getting detected. How can I go about debugging this further? Thanks a lot!
