Vdubjunkie
I hate to sound like the crochety old man here, but giving a line of command to this guy isn't what is really going to help him, because next time he goes to install software from source he still won't know what he is doing. You have to know why you are cd /home/kili.../updates... instead of cd /updates... and what it all means. There are a lot of gui tools that assist in you not having to know anything about linux, but if you want to do yourself a huge favor, learn the command line. I was looking up some stuff to show to potential clients, etc. the other day and found something wonderful from ibm.com. Take a look if you can manage. It looked very well written to me for people anywhere from nearly total noob to somewhat experienced. IBM's learn linux page
