New install (2009.1) - many kernels! [solved]

Recommended Posts

After my new Mandriva Spring install, I now have several kernels installed. Just wondering if I need to keep them all, change some, or even add any. I don't do anything "fancy" with my computer. I just write letters, listen to music, and "goof around" trying to pretend I know something.

these you could remove, they are for running on the live-cd and/or in virtualbox but you could leave them too

Apart from the kernel you have booted into, and assuming it is working as you desire, then there is no need for the remainder of them at all. They are just taking up disc space. They have zero connection to anything unless booted into so Use MCC and delete them all but take care not to uninstall the one you are booted into (MCC will stop you anyway).

They all serve different requirements which are mostly more specialised but not needed for usual computer use.

Cheers. John.
