Mandriva2009 Gnome: "inactive" Desktop

Hi,

I have Mandriva 2009 and am trying to move from KDE4 to Gnome. The problem I have is that I cannot put anything on the desktop in Gnome: neither applets, nor loaders, nor documents. The right click on the desktop does nothings. I could assemble panels just fine though. I installed all packaged I found relevant for gnome and gdm. I would appreciate a lot if somebody could tell me how can I "activate" the desktop.

Thank you

What you have is not the usual Gnome desktop... There should be icons, and you should be able to add all sorts of things.

What happens if you launch "nautilus" from a terminal window? Are there errors shown?

That was a good point, thank you. Nautilus doesn't work, essentially. I've tried to reinstall nautilus, but it didn't work. I think I'll wait to the next time I reinstall linux to move to Gnome, otherwise it's too much of a headache...
