Guest ajoy_raj
hi, I installed mdk 9.1 on my presario AMD 2200+ laptop. Everything works fine except when it comes to Reboot/Halt my computer. I am working on GUI envt ... I use KDE.. When I logout, I get the Reboot/Halt window. But clicking "REBOOT" does'nt reboot the system. It just shows a blank window with a back button. Curiously  , HALT works without a problem. I just need to physically reboot the computer, still, 'am wondering why it is acting like this. Is it some security constraints I might have unknowingly defined during installation ? Has anyone faced/rectified this problem before ? If so, please tell me how ... P.S. I am a newbie to Linux
Cannonfodder
Try opening a console and typing reboot another command shutdown -r now -r = reboot now means right now vs a time span see man shutdown
Guest ajoy_raj
Ya, shutdown command works, but the GUI doesn't is it OK to activate a console shutdown from a GUI interface ? -Ajoy
Guest anon
is it OK to activate a console shutdown from a GUI interface ?-Ajoy Yes it is. While your in the console, type su and your root password, then type urpmi kdm see if that helps with your GUI logout problem.
bvc
You need the updates (mdkkdm, or kdm). Use Mandrake Update to at minimum get one of those and the drak stuff (draktools, drakconf etc...). you can change which desktop manager (dm) to use in the Mandrake Control Center>Hardware>Login Manager (or something).
