I've a Canon Powershot A510. I conected it with the mini-USB cable, and dmesg give me this:

VFS: busy inodes on changed media.

VFS: busy inodes on changed media.

usb 4-2: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 7

usb 4-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice

usb 4-2: New USB device found, idVendor=04a9, idProduct=30c2

usb 4-2: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0

usb 4-2: Product: Canon Digital Camera

usb 4-2: Manufacturer: Canon Inc.

VFS: busy inodes on changed media.

VFS: busy inodes on changed media.

But it isn't mounted as mass storage. What can be the problem, and how can I mount it manually?

Which Mandriva version are you using?

BTW: I am using a cheap external card-reader for transferring my pictures (cost: 7 Euros). Way easier than dealing with the camera itself IMHO (especially if you have to transfer, as in my case, hundreds of pictures from several DSLRs to your desktop. :) )

The problem is that all recent Canon cameras support the PTP protocol rather than the usb_storage one.

The older ones are even worse- they only work with Canon's proprietary communication protocol, not even PTP.

Solution: install gphoto2 and one of its frontends (they are many of them available). There's no way to make a Canon digicam usb_storage aware.
