jmo707
I can't play ogg files with Amarok nor VLC, though I can with Totem. Similar thing happens with a module music file extension: s3m. Even when both VLC and Amarok play .mod files, they won't .s3m What should I do to solve this?
medo3891
Install mplayer then play the file from terminal and see if there're any useful messages there: mplayer filename.ogg
adamw
.ogg ought to work out of the box...can you check if gstreamer0.10-decoders-audio is installed? Thanks.
scarecrow
And s3m is supported by an audio library named "dumb". There is also an xmms/ bmp plugin for such files, which I don't know if they work (never met any such files).
jmo707
gstreamer0.10-decoders-audio wasn't installed. The problem was not solved, but there is a thing that I didn't mentioned before that might be helpful. Both VLC and Amarok can actually play the ogg files (s3m isn't recognized), but there is no sound. By the way, mplayer plays ogg fine, with no strange messages, but doesn't play mod, xm or s3m. Thanks for the help! =) Edited January 6, 2009 by jmo707
Greg2
Kaffeine using kaffeine-engine-xine from the PLF repos, and vlc using the vlc-plugin-mod from the PLF repos will play s3m files.
adamw
Do other operations give you sound output? Does the system have more than one sound output device? thanks!
jmo707
Greg2: I installed vlc-plugin-ogg and vlc-plugin-mod. Now VLC plays ogg, mod and xm =D s3m can't be recognized still, but this is great! adamw: VLC, Totem, Amarok, Firefox?, and KsCD. The only output device is Intel HDA. adamw
jmo: well, that's odd. You could try switching the Phonon output plugin from Gstreamer to Xine (install phonon-xine package first) in KDE Control Center (not Mandriva Control Center). It may help.
