Yesterday they worked fine, today when I plug in a usb device ( phone, mp3 player ) mandriva wo't detect it. No desktop icon ( gnome ), nothing in places, nothing.

Have rebooted and also logged in using kde but still no joy.

Any ideas?

Automounting in Gnome, etc is handled by udev, and in turn udev is requiring dbus/haldaemon from what I remember when I was doing this under Gentoo once and noticed it wasn't working. Then as soon as I had dbus/udev/haldaemon all installed, it worked fine.

I've also noticed sometimes on a system that when starting, haldaemon failed to start. Because of this, I couldn't auto-mount either. If you see it happen again, check your haldaemon service was started. This can vary in naming from hald, haldaemon, etc.
