Chris H
Yesterday they worked fine, today when I plug in a usb device ( phone, mp3 player ) mandriva wo't detect it. No desktop icon ( gnome ), nothing in places, nothing. Have rebooted and also logged in using kde but still no joy. Any ideas?
ianw1974
Check if the udev service is enabled and running OK. Also maybe dbus and haldaemon.
Chris H
Thanks for the info Ian. As it happens it did finally detect my phone via usb just before I left for work after an hours tinkering. Will bear the things to check in mind if it goes awry again. ianw1974
Automounting in Gnome, etc is handled by udev, and in turn udev is requiring dbus/haldaemon from what I remember when I was doing this under Gentoo once and noticed it wasn't working. Then as soon as I had dbus/udev/haldaemon all installed, it worked fine. I've also noticed sometimes on a system that when starting, haldaemon failed to start. Because of this, I couldn't auto-mount either. If you see it happen again, check your haldaemon service was started. This can vary in naming from hald, haldaemon, etc.
