Yo, im looking at buying an MSI wind, pretty much what i want to do is wipe windows, and put either Mandriva or Ubuntu on it. I know Ubuntu is having problems getting it to work, and i dont want to go through the hassle of installing a new wireless card. So im leaning towards Mandriva...What im wondering is does in work out of the box, like does the wifi work, bluetooth, web cam, etc...and what ill have to do to get them to work if they dont work out of the box.

I don't have MSI Wind (yet?), but I have seen here threads describing issues with the wireless card. Here are two examples:

I read somewhere that MSI changed the card somewhere along the way, and some of the devices work out of the box, and some of them require tweaking. If I were you, I would try to run from the Live CD (both Ubuntu and Mandriva, maybe even other distros) in the store, before the purchase, to make sure it works. But it requires some convincing of the store manager, I would say.

Good luck, let us know how it works.

hello from the Philippines!

i just installed mandriva 2009 on my msi wind and was able to get the wireless connectivity to work out of the box, but only after manually specifying the SSID, encryption type (WPA-PSK), and key... Don't know why yet, but scanning for available wireless networks is not working even though SSID broadcast on both Linksys and D-Link router is enabled. Nevertheless, the wireless connectivity works great!

Thanks to everyone at Mandriva... and also MSI! Great job, guys (and girls)!!

Best regards to one and all...
