aerogate
Hi there, Whilst using Kaffeine I like to have 2 effects plugins enabled :- volnorm and eq only problem is I need to set these active each time Kaffeine starts. Is there any way of making them perminently set? Mandriva 2009, but had this problem since 10.1 Mike Edited November 11, 2008 by aerogate
scarecrow
Kaffeine for KDE4 crashes every three minutes for me (although I never liked the KDE3 version as well), so I can't be helpful. Please consider using a better media player (e.g. vlc, smplayer).

scarecrow
- Bookmarks and bookmarks management? - HD-DVD and hd-mp4/matroska playback? - Proper subtitles rendering? - Screensaver deactivation while playing? - Audio and video format convertion? - Some mildly convenient way to take screenshots of the videos played? If the above don't mean anything to you, then by all means use kaffeine. For me, it's not really worth talking about...

scarecrow
So, you - don't care about bookmarks - or about the dismal hd playback quality of the x264 binary (x264-svn which has trouble to work with xine-ui is somewhat better, vlc 0.9.5 is much better and mplayer compiled with coreAVC support is clearly best - however, kaffeine can only use xine-ui as backend). - "proper" is and english word meaning (in that particular case) seeing readable fonts on your screen, not gothic and japanese chars instead. - Screensaver deactivation of kaffeine works only within KDE and with compiz disabled- not if fired within another DE. - Avidemux is not a converter. You likely mean mencoder or ffmpeg. - ctrl +s never worked for me, as in my desktop (XFCE4) it opens the "save" dialog. They should pick a more sophisticated shortcut, or (anyway) a customizable one. No, not a Mandriva guru, and certainly not a kaffeine one, either. I have many more useful things to do than discovering the kaffeine hidden charms. aerogate
Bookmarks would be good. I use Gstreamer engine for HD/matroska, settings/Player Engine to switch beetween xine and gstreamer, it really is quite simple. Screensaver deactivation works fine under compiz/kde (for me anyway) Avidemux is a frontend for various converters indeed of course I know that! but thanks for your suggestions on alternative players.
