RVDowning
I get an error when trying to access my HP CM1017 all in one printer scanning function. I get the problem either using HP Device Manager (which uses xsane) or xsane itself. When I attempt to scan something, I hear the scanner being accessed, and it sounds like it is scanning. But then nothing. Eventually I'll get a popup box saying "Failed to start scanner: Error during device I/O." It takes a while before the popup displays, kind of like a timeout. Printing works fine. This is with 2009.0 and xsane 0.995 and HPLIP 2.8.10. Any ideas? /var/log/messages shows the following: Nov 8 17:15:08 localhost python: io/hpmud/jd.c 574: timeout read_channel sec=90 hp:/net/HP_Color_LaserJet_CM1017?ip=192.168.1.200 Nov 8 17:15:08 localhost python: http.c 188: timeout reading data sec_timeout=90 Nov 8 17:15:08 localhost python: bb_soap.c 714: unable to start dime document: hp:/net/HP_Color_LaserJet_CM1017?ip=192.168.1.200 Nov 8 17:15:10 localhost python: hp-scan[8200]: error: Error during device I/O Nov 8 17:15:10 localhost python: io/hpmud/hpmud.c 323: device_cleanup: device uri=hp:/net/HP_Color_LaserJet_CM1017?ip=192.168.1.200 Nov 8 17:15:10 localhost python: io/hpmud/hpmud.c 335: device_cleanup: close device dd=1... scarecrow
Can you scan, or access the scanner as root? sane-find-scanner in a root console.
RVDowning
The scanner is plugged into the router. sane-find-scanner says that "Most Scanners connected to the parallel port or other proprietary ports can't be detected by this program." It didn't see it. It is being accessed though, because I can hear it come on and it sounds like it is scanning. It just seems like it can't send the data back. scarecrow
Making sane work for tcp/ip is quite tricky. Personally I never had the need to set it up (just plain printers), but this one looks like a valuable piece of info: http://www.linux.com/articles/57798 If the above info is correct, then you must first set xinetd on the host- but since there's no such thing on virtually all the routers I know, I doubt if it can be done.
