Guest bryenski
I ordered a DVD of Mandriva 10.1 from Cheapbytes to install on my Dell Inspirion 1501. I entered the boot menu and told it to boot from the CD-ROM drive. It did and then searched for USB devices. (it did find my external usb HD) Then a window popped up and said "error: cant find cd-rom drive" I figured it was just missing the driver for the cd-rom (which is weird it worked fine on my desktop) So I decided that I would just copy the DVD onto my external HD, then I booted from the hard drive and installation continued. When it asked where I wanted to install the OS the laptop's internal HD did not show up. All in all Im guessing that I need drivers, but I dont know where I would find them and I dont know how to install. Is Mandrake just bad with dell laptops? ianw1974
Mandrake 10.1 is extremely old so it's unlikely to work on your new hardware. Get the newest version - Mandriva 2009.0 or even Mandriva 2008.0 or 2008.1 would be fine.
