scoopy
Trying to compile a gimp plugin called "gdyntext" and here's where I get to (make install): /usr/bin/install: cannot create regular file `/root/.gimp-1.2/plug-ins/gdyntext': No such file or directory make: *** [install] Error 1 From what I see, gimp is not installed there and would be my problem. I have these: file:/home/scoopy/.gimp-1.2 file:/home/scoopy/.gimp-1.3 file:/usr/lib/gimp/1.2/plug-ins file:/usr/lib/gimp/1.3/plug-ins thanks,
liquidzoo
Looks like it's trying to install into the home directory of the current user. Since you have those directories in your home, not as root, have you tried running the make install command as your normal user?
bvc
A normal user can't do make install unless all files are being installed in the users $HOME (you probably knew that  ) As root ln -s /usr/lib/gimp/1.2/plug-ins /root/.gimp-1.2/plug-ins then try make intall
liquidzoo
I did know that, but it looks like the files are being installed into $HOME in that particular instance.
scoopy
The symlink seemed to get me through the install, but the plugin did not work for me. This was not a normal gimp plugin... so maybe that is part of the problem. I had better luck just copying .scm files (script source files) into the plugin folder. Will play with this again another time. thanks again.
bvc
The top Makefile can be edited for INSTALLDIR= (or the like....it's been a while). Should have told you that last post.....but it was late.....wasn't thinking straight, and thought a quick symlink would do it. Try the Makefile next time
scoopy
No INSTALLDIR=, but README said to edit this line: GIMPBIN = /usr/bin which I did not touch since that seemed to be correct. The plugin seems to have been installed, gimp just doesn't want to acknowledge it or something. OR... I just ain't looking in the right spot for it. /me keeps pluggin away at it
