{BBI}Nexus{BBI}
Why do you need to use Alt, Ctrl & Backspace? It's not meant to be a way of quickly logging off. Doing that restarts your Xserver and dumps you back to the log on screen. Are you suffering from lockups of your desktop?
ianw1974
CTRL-ALT-Backspace does the same as choosing Log Off. If it's not coming back, then there is some underlying problem. Switching to a console with CTRL-ALT-F1 will allow you to login as root and then do: service dm stop service dm start I sometimes do this and usually works fine for me. As I said, if it's not working for you, please check /var/log/Xorg.0.log and post here so we can see if there's any xorg problems stopping your system from coming back. Chris H
There is the blank screen on logout that affected 2008 with the KDM login manager, maybe this is still the problem?
David Batson
I can't speak about 2009.0, but in previous versions of Mandriva, this would happen with the ATI graphics adapter when using the propriatary drivers with KDE. Apparently this is not a problem in the Gnome release.
scarecrow
CTRL-ALT-Backspace does the same as choosing Log Off. I don't think so. This is killing the x-server, while logging off does not. Is gdm/kdm running as a daemon? You might solve the issue if you disable it, and just set inittab to run your preferred login manager at runlevel 5, instead of having it running as a daemon.
