stv4rn0
Does anybody use Grip for ripping CDs into mp3 files? I'm running Mandriva 2008.1 under Gnome but cannot seem to find lame (or other) encoders. Any pointers? Thanks. ianw1974
I'm generally using Audio CD Extractor. Although, I've used grip in the past. From the package info: [root@esprit ian]# urpmq -i grip Name : grip Version : 3.3.1 Release : 9mdv2009.0 Group : Sound Size : 899003 Architecture: x86_64 Source RPM : grip-3.3.1-9mdv2009.0.src.rpm URL : http://www.nostatic.org/grip/ Summary : Grip, a CD player and ripper/MP3-encoder front-end Description : Grip is a GTK+-based CD player and ripper. It has the ripping capabilities of cdparanoia built in, but can also use external rippers (such as cdda2wav). It also provides an automated frontend for various encoders, letting you take a disc and transform it easily straight into Vorbis, FLAC or MP3 format (MP3 only with a separate MP3 encoder). The CDDB protocol is supported for retrieving track information from disc database servers. Grip works with DigitalDJ to provide a unified "computerized" version of your music collection. it seems it should do the trick as it has MP3 support. Currently in Audio CD Creator, I can do flac and oga, but I don't see mp3 in the list, so perhaps it needs the lame encoders installing. However, I just did: urpmi lame lame-mp3x and now grip has support for mp3 ripping. It seems you just need to install the encoders you need for grip to list them. stv4rn0
Hm ... "urpmi lame lame-mp3x" ended up in tears here: No package named lame The following packages contain lame: flamerobin glame libtwolame-devel libtwolame0 msv-relames msv-relames-javadoc twolame No package named lame-mp3x I'm not convinced any of the listed packages has "the right lame". Normally i don't have such problems when using urpmi.
ianw1974
You probably need to ensure you have all your repositories set up, like plf. Use the easyurpmi link above to set up the repos, or you can check what ones you have enabled so far with: urpmq --list-media here's mine: [root@esprit ian]# urpmq --list-media Main Main Updates Main32 Main32 Updates Main Testing Main Backports Main debug Main Updates debug Main Testing debug Main Backports debug Contrib Contrib Updates Contrib Testing Contrib Backports Contrib debug Contrib Updates debug Contrib Testing debug Contrib Backports debug Non-free Non-free Updates Non-free Testing Non-free Backports debug_non-free_release debug_non-free_updates debug_non-free_testing debug_non-free_backports PLF Free PLF Free debug PLF Non-free PLF Non-free debug the only repos I didn't enable are the debug and testing ones. stv4rn0
You were right - it was PLF that was missing, I had everything else configured. Thanks for that.
