So, I recentley installed Mandriva, and when I boot it up, everything loads, and then it throws me to a command line, making me type my user credentials, okay, so I type them in, and get onto root.

Now to the big question, how the **** do I get to the Desktop?

Do excuse me if this is a dumb question, the only Linux I've ever used is Ubuntu, so you get my drill. :wall:

And sorry if this is the wrong forum, you are welcome to move the topic.

Thank you.

Could you please give us some information on

1.) which version of Mandriva you installed

2.) which graphics card you have?

If the system drops to a command line, then it means (in 99% of cases) that your graphics card was not configured properly. This can be fixed by installing the proper kernel (e.g. one with the right nvidia modules or ati modules included) and running afterwards as root

XFdrake
which will start the graphics-configuration-tool.

Thank you to you both, got it working, however, it dosen't seem to support 1680x1050, my screens resolution, or well, when I run XFdrake, and select 1680x1050 it says Frequency out of range, but I can see the screen. However, when I boot up with it, I still get frequency out of range, but instead the screens resolution changes to 1680x1200.

Any ideas?

Gprahics card is nVidia 9600.

Also, my internet ain't working when running Mandriva.

My network card is Realtek RTL8168 Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet.

This is the "master computer", so it goes straight to the router, while the rest of my boxes use wireless.

Help would be appriciated.
