Well, for exactly the same reasons as aRtee.

I met a guy on the station who develops for Gnome...

I was doing some work on my laptop and he just came over and started talking to me.

I guess i'd meet some plf stars if I got off my fat ass.

I'm all for them, theyre pretty well reported in the local press so i should bite the bit and do it.

Its just having 4 conversations at once in French really gets hard ...

Years and years ago I was in a computer user group, well my father was and I got to go for the ride. Really good memories of hacking away at the BBC ... the upmarket 32kb mem model..

Ahhh the nostagia.....

I'd love to join a LUG, but I don't have the time right now.

If I did I would. Unfortunately, Time is very precious for me right now, I have to be in 2-3 places at once typically. Hopefully that will change in the future.

I'm a member of the Hull-LUG here in my home town.

We are a small-ish group with around 25 members AFAIK.

I joined so that I could get in touch with local users to discuss issues and problems. Prior to joining the LUG I barely knew of anybody who had even heard of it let alon ran it.

One person even commented that Linux "Is for hackers only!" and then promptly gave me alecture on why I shouldn't get into hacking :o As if!

Heather Im from Merrill (just N. of Wausau) where might this LUG be that is 2hrs away? Also you have to do what I do, give a copy of Knoppix to your neighbors to try out, soon they will be asking you to partition thier hdd to load a linux distro on it.

(speaking from experience with one of my nieghbors)

I was thinking Madison or Milwaukee. I know Madison has at least one but I don't drive. I've tried preaching the virtues of Linux to lots of people but mostly they just laugh and change the subject, I think I need new friends.

going to a lug meeting in this area decreases you're chances of ever getting laid again by 22%.

hehe

That's about the same percentage for those who get married and have a child.

aren't you being a little generous? ;-)
