I recently upgraded my video card to an NVIDIA GeForceFX 5600 256MB. I just installed 1 gig of RAM (2 512MB DDR3200). I've just started having problems with booting up. My caps lock and scroll lock lights blick on and off after any selection (no Windows on this machine). I'm using MDK 9.1. Is this too much memory? If so, is there a way around it? This is on an Athlon XP2400+. It was working fine with the video card and 256MB PC2100 RAM. Later, I'm going to try removing one module and seeing

Welcone to the board

The flashing LEDs often means a kernel oops. There is a bit about them here:

johnnyv has had a similar problem

http://www.mandrakeusers.org/viewtopic.php...p?p=34339#34339

And there is some info here which might be of use, it's about

Good luck

I guess that I didn't browse back far enough. :) Well, I tried to just do a kernel compile, but had problems. So I just did an an install with the 1gig memory in there. Found out that the enterprise kernel they install is the one to boot to get the 1gig. Ended up upgrading kernel and compiling that so now I'm running -18. Now, I'm continuing bringing up my components again. 8)

Thanks.

On my sys it was no problem when I installed the second 512MB mem stick.

True, I only get to use 890MB (or something like that) of the 1024, but since my gkrellm (or on command line: free) tells me that I don't use even 800MB I just know it's not worth it recompiling or using the enterprise kernel.

Did you see if your bios settings are ok?

For instance, the amount of mem allocated for the graphics buffer; my guess is that should also be 256MB...?

While I was able to use the linux-nfb, I wanted to be to have the capability to use the full 1GB especially as I set up my PVR again. 8) I did double-check that the AGP aperture was 256MB, thought that wasn't the case beforehand. Also, my meminfo is
