I've got a problem!

I was trying to do a update on my new system through the Control Centre and nothing happens. You click the update button and the log window says the program has started, the window asking to click for update appears to which I click yes. Then it goes off and to look for updates then nothing, the window disappears and MCC just sits there.

I have looked through some of the log files and the only one which makes sense is the urpmi.log

Sat Jul 12 13:15:37 2003 urpmi called with --allow-medium-change --auto --best-output zcip

rpmdb: Program version 4.0.14 doesn't match environment version 3.1.14

what does it all mean, looks like something went wrong somewhere.

It seems like i have the same problem, or close to it: http://mandrakeusers.org/viewtopic.php?t=6364.

When I tried to update during the installation, it worked, but the connection to mirrors was problematic. When the installation was completed, Mandrake Update just couldn't find what to update...

I am downloading the updates ISO now, and this is my third attempt already :? ...

Here is how I did a complete system update with no problems:

Installed the system

First boot I applied the easy URPMI :

http://plf.zarb.org/~nanardon/

Added the gpg keys:

http://www.pclinuxonline.com/gpgkey.html

For the PLF:

in console (as root):

lynx -source http://plf.zarb.org/plf.asc | gpg --import

After that in the same terminal(as root) typed:

urpmi.update --all (to update urpm base list)

then:

urpmi --auto-select (installed a boat load a packages)

---

I may have done an update via the MCC first after I did the easy urpmi but I cant remember. I think when you enter "urpmi --auto-select" all updated packages to include security updates will happen (not totally positive though). A "urpmi.update --all" may not be needed after you just input your sources via easy urpmi but for future use it wont hurt.

I would try to manually install the updates for grpmi and drakxtools first. This may make thinks run smoother with the other updates and installs. Seems there are lots of updates that fix lots of bugs with 9.1 and once you get these updates in... things run a whole lot smoother.

I dont know what happened but when I turned the mc on the next day everything worked fine.

That would indicate a site down the previous day but surely that would only affect the update or the install parts, even then I should still be able to install local sources. Nevermind, I will bumb this up if it happens again.
