yossarian
Hi everybody, I'm using Mandriva 2008.1 with Gnome. I decided to re-arrange the upper bar, especially its right side (where the clock is). Added workspace switcher, for example. Apparently in the process I must have deleted a few things, because now I don't get a notification when an update for a software is available (and I see in MCC that many updates are available for me). Does anyone know how to bring it back? Thanks! Edited July 10, 2008 by yossarian
dexter11
It's called mdkapplet.
yossarian
Thanks. And how do I bring it back to the panel by default (so that it would run automatically each time I log in)?
daniewicz
Well I disabled the automatic checking for updates when I installed 2008.0, and I can't remember how I did it so that I could tell you how to undo it Anyway, from a quick search on the web I found: edit ~/.MdkOnline/mdkonline, and change the AUTOSTART=FALSE to TRUE Does this bring back the applet on startup? yossarian
Anyway, from a quick search on the web I found:edit ~/.MdkOnline/mdkonline, and change the AUTOSTART=FALSE to TRUE My ~/.MdkOnline folder is empty. :o
daniewicz
my folder has a file named mdkonline with these contents: AUTOSTART=FALSE LASTCHECK=Tue_Mar_11_17:17:26_2008
daniewicz
if you run mdkapplet from the command line, does it bring up the applet icon? If you right click on the icon, is there an option "launch at startup" ?
yossarian
if you run mdkapplet from the command line, does it bring up the applet icon? No, I get this message in the terminal: mdkapplet already running (7836) So I guess it's already running, I just can't see it. Where does it hide? yossarian
Ah, solved. On the panel, right click, choose "Add to panel...", then choose "Notification Area". So simple... Thanks for your time, was a pleasure as usual.
