GTK+ file selector

Recommended Posts

Selecting files with the GTK+ file selector is very slow and difficult because it seems to be missing many essential features, like adding extra columns with size and file type, no file preview mode, no button to show/hide hidden files etc. etc. Is there a way to add these feature to the file selector? I useally end up just using nautilus to open a file :(

Are you referring to a specific gtk+ application, or something else?

For me it opens at a reasonable speed, unless I open very populated dirs like /usr (there it's simply terribly slow), or I'm running Gnome, which surely is the slowest desktop environment available...

Under XFCE4 (which also uses gtk+ widgets and elements) everything is significantly faster- not so fast as with QT3/4, but fast enough.

My main gripe is that it doesn't show previews and there are no columns for file size and file type, it makes it very hard to find specific files in directories which have a lot of files.... I accidentally found out how to unhide hidden files but I need to click in a very specific place (exactly between the scroll bar and "modified")
