Guest dardack
I have a gravis gamepad pro for usb, does this work in Mandrake 9.1 and if so can someone point me to directions for getting it to work in games and such? Thanks.
Guest JaseP
My understanding is that the Gravis USB is one of the few joysticks/gamepads that DO work well in Mandrake. Setting them up is a pain for newbies however. I have an old-fashioned joyport Gravis Xterminator game pad and it was capable of being set up (but very problematical). IF you want a joystick/gamepad in Linux, USB appears the way to go.
bvc
the module is called grip. You'll find similar or the same in ML9.1 but in RH9's /usr/src/linux-2.4.20-8/Documentation/input/joystick.txt 3.4 Gravis GrIP~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Gravis GrIP protocol is supported by the grip.c module. It currently supports: * Gravis GamePad Pro * Gravis BlackHawk Digital * Gravis Xterminator * Gravis Xterminator DualControl All these devices are autodetected, and you can even use any combination of up to two of these pads either chained together or using an Y-cable on a single gameport. GrIP MultiPort isn't supported yet. Gravis Stinger is a serial device and is supported by the stinger driver. Other Gravis joysticks are supported by the analog driver. you'll find just about anything you need to know in /usr/src/linux/Documentation/input/ if I remember correctly I had to load grip gameport input joydev

Guest JaseP
Somebody's got a tutorial on setting up joysticks/gamepads in Linux. I can't remember what the link was. I do know it's fairly much requires you to know some basics about command line processes.
bvc
The easiest way and the way I did it was to put any mod you think could be used/or apply/or be a dep into /etc/modules and reboot with the joystick/gamepad plugged in. If the mod can be used it will, if not it won't. Then after verifying th js/gp works do lsmod and see which are loaded....leave the used in /etc/modules and you're done. There a tarball and possibly an rpm called js-utils (if I remember correctly) but the utils aren't that great, rarely even needed, and confusing to learn how to use at first, at least for me. Load them with (try) modprobe grip gameport input joydev hid

For USB, all the modules needed are usually joydev input hid That's what I use for my usb gravis gamepad (I forgot the name, I am not using my computer right now). To set it up, I just use jsconfigurator. Or run a joypad capable programs such as ZSNES or visualboyadvance.
