scoonma
Hi there, I need to protect /etc/inittab from being overwritten permanently on MDV 2007.1; however the FS is Reiser and chattr doesn't work here. I found this posting http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=575307 which indicates some bug. Any updates possible? I *could* patch my kernel, but rather like to circumvent this. Please let me know your thoughts on this, Scoonma [moved from Software by spinynorman]
pindakoe
May be start somewhere else -- why protect inittab? Figure out what is changing it, kill it and be done with it. Tackle the problem at its root rather than deal with the side effects. AFAIK inittab is only changed when you indicate whether or not to start in level 5 (X) -- XFDrake and possibly boot section of MCC.
scoonma
Hi Pindakoe, you're right - but I always start that system at runlevel 3. Don't know what process is resetting inittab everytime. I guess some part of the security system is responsible, but haven't dug deep into that yet. So I'd be glad for any hint...
ianw1974
Could be selinux if it's enabled.
