Guest sparskter
Hello folks !! Well...If we go to www.kde.org and take a look, we will see that there is no RPM packages for mandrake 9.1 !? If i decide to compile everything it will take ^10 hours I guess... how to solve this ? thanks in advance sparskter
Ixthusdan
If you don't want to compile it yourself, you'll have to wait for someone else to do it. Texstar usually gets on it within 5-6 days of a new release. You should also keep an eye on cooker, because they will show up there unannounced. Thanks for helping ! could you tell me the texstar web site ? ps: I dont want to compile by myself because I have a slow machine and I am a beginner.. So after 12 hours it still can generate errors...
scoopy
KDE 3.1.2 currently available here in rpm form: http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distribut...drake/9.1/rpms/ texstar is your friend and you can usually find most new releases made into rpm for Mandrake there. Guest sparskter
sorry again folks.. But do you know about kdebindings ? I didin't find it in texstar.. Is it realy necessary ? thanks..
Ixthusdan
I don't know about bindings, but be sure to get arts, libarts, lisa, and libqt in order to upgrade kde. If it is not in texstar, it is either not needed to upgrade or included in another rpm.

manly
You can also add the ftp site to urpmi. Then, an upgrade is as simple as: urpmi.update --update (updates the update sources) urpmi --auto --auto-select --update (updates everything automatically) If you are doing an upgrade, it makes sense to not be running what you are upgrading. So if you are upgrading KDE, log into GNOME/WindowMaker/Virt. Console and upgrade from there. If you are using KDM make sure to give it a restart as well (restarting the x server should suffice). --Andrew
Ixthusdan
Good idea, although I have always upgraded kde in a console and then simply logged out and restarted x. Works every time! (Or is that tyme? I get confused!)
Gowator
I just urpmi'd from texstars site, Before you do this check out the easy urpmi at the plf site. It writes everything for you to add sources for both plf and texstar as well as contribs. Its automagic ... You can find the link to plf in the links section :-) under useful links.... manly
One of the things I did was to download the entire contrib packages from work (2-3 GB of rpms!). I then set that up as a urpmi source. You could do the same with your kde packages, or at the console try urpmi kde* in the directory that you saved the RPM's to.
