RVDowning
I'm looking for a printer recommendation. This is for multi function (scanning, copying, printing, faxing) and color. A friend recommended the Epson brand saying that they had a good history of being Linux friendly. Any other ideas, or any particular Epson recommendations? skyhawk
I am still using an ancient Canon BJC-610 inkjet, but when it fails I plan to replace it with a monochrome laser printer, most probably one made by Brother. I am sure you will want a printer (if you select a laser-type) that has the toner cartridge and drum replacable as separate items. See the following webpage for helpful ideas. dude67
Go for HP. (not Canon for sure - don't really know about Epson)
Greg2
HP or Epson. They both work without any problems using Linux. They both have their pros and cons. I currently use Epson, because I can purchase that ink cheaper than HP ink. :)
ianw1974
I'm a HP man.
willie
I don't know about epson i've heard the are working well with Linux, i've now my second HP-allinone and its working out of the box. The only thing is there are only 2 cartridges in the HP, colour and black instead of 4 cartidges (CMYK).
scarecrow
Epsons are the obvious choice in that part of the globe. HP's have good Linux support, but their customer support here (Greece) is plain horrible at best. Canon does make the best printers ATM, but there is no Linux support- unless you don't mind shedding another € 30/ $45 for buying the Turboprint driver. The new 2.X Turboprint beta driver is extremely user-friendly (all configuration is done windoze-like via an easy gtk2 UI), but it is certainly expensive for a user of a cheap printer. RVDowning
I ended up going with the HP cm1017 MFP. This is color, laser, copy and scan capable and is also a network printer.
RVDowning
Well, it looks like I'll be taking this one back. According to tech support, they don't think it can do scanning in Linux and don't think it ever will. I don't know if that is true or not, but if their tech support has that attitude, then I don't think I want it anyway.

Not exactly true. I have found linux Canon drivers (rpm's) on Canon websites in certain countries. I have a multifunction Canon PIXMA MP600 and I was able to find Canon drivers for the printer and scanner. Works for me. Here are some sites I bookmarked for my printer. http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer....non-PIXMA_MP600 ftp://download.canon.jp/pub/driver/bj/linux/ http://cweb.canon.jp/drv-upd/bj/bjlinux270.html http://www.canon.com.au/products/all_in_on...00_support.aspx http://mp610.blogspot.com/2007/11/setup-ca...0-or-mp610.html
FX
I believe it is Kodax that has NO support for linux as I just bought one only to find that out. :(
mindwave
cant vouch for scanning but my wofes brother ML/HL 1010 works GREAT in linux. they even have linux drivers available from their web site. adamw
Yeah, I have a Samsung ML series and it's very good for a well-priced, power efficient mono laser. Linux driver has no problems. To check scanning compatibility, use the lists on the SANE homepage.
