scoopy
I am trying to find an app to edit some mp3 files... something like cooledit2000 in windows, but for Mandrake. I would like to be able to open an existing mp3 file and be able to play it, see its bitrate, change its id tag, and be able to re - encode it. A few other features and filters would be icing on the cake. I thought Audacity was the app for this job, but it does not show any of the file info and apparently is unfinished at this time. Xmms shows this info but does not encode as far as I know. thanx,

scoopy
TTT All I could find was a Tic-Tac-Toe game. All the other popular apps, like grip and ripperX only encode from a CD. There's got to be something to edit mp3 or ogg files.
ezroller
HAHAHA! sorry. "TTT" is a forum term for "To The Top." its a free bump back to the top of the list so more people see it.
BobGuy©
Have you looked into rezound yet? It's on one the 3 mandrake cd's ready to be installed. That is, if this is what you are looking for. http://rezound.sourceforge.net/ http://sourceforge.net/docman/?group_id=5056
aru
If you don't mind to use a mixture of powerfull console apps... [*]mp3info An MP3 technical info viewer and ID3 1.x tag editor. MP3Info has an interactive mode (using curses) and a command line mode. MP3Info can display ID3 tag information as well as various technical aspects of an MP3 file including playing time, bit-rate, sampling frequency and other attributes in a pre-defined or user-specifiable output format. It also has a VERY configurable output. mp3info is availlable with both ncurses and gtk UIs. [*]mpg123 Mpg123 is a fast, free and portable MPEG audio player for Unix. It supports MPEG 1.0/2.0 layers 1, 2 and 3 ("mp3" files). For full CD quality playback (44 kHz, 16 bit, stereo) a fast CPU is required. Mono and/or reduced quality playback (22 kHz or 11 kHz) is possible on slow CPUs (like Intel 486). [*]mpgtx mpgtx (an MPEG ToolboX) allows you to manipulate ID3 tags, split, join, demultiplex, and fetch detailed information about a variety of MPEG files. It was designed to do little, but do it well, and to provide the end user with an austere yet powerful commandline interface. It replaces "mpgcut". [*]sox SoX (Sound eXchange) is a sound file format converter for Linux, UNIX and DOS PCs. The self-described 'Swiss Army knife of sound tools,' SoX can convert between many different digitized sound formats and perform simple sound manipulation functions, including sound effects. Install the sox package if you'd like to convert sound file formats or manipulate some sounds. [*]...and so on...
Michel
I keep a list of apps I like (or think to like..) and these are the music apps (some are mentionned already):. Honestley;, I didhn't try them mayself yet, because you have to have a patched kernel fot them....From kernel 2.6(has to come out yet) these features from the patches will be in the kernel. Audacity: quite powerfull app I think, can do a lot of stuff, but don't think can do it in realtime: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ Ardour: also powerfull and can do mixing, effects in Realtime. I'm keeping on eye on this one and I think a lot of other people to...: http://ardour.sourceforge.net/ Rosegarden: also powerfull I think: http://www.all-day-breakfast.com/rosegarden/ Ecasound: another one: http://www.wakkanet.fi/~kaiv/ecasound/ But can you edit mp-3-tags..don't know :), but maybe they do...Anyway, maybe they interest you
