I have installed wine version 2003-05-08 in Mandrake 9.1. There were no problems with the install of wine. I am trying to instal Lotus Notes version 5.0.11. When I isntall Notes with the command "wine setup.exe" I get the following messages in my terminal window (I have edited it a little to save space):

When that is all done the Notes instalation ends like it would in a Windows instalation but the terminal window is hung and I will not get a command prompt until I do a CTRL-C. When I look at the files created during the install most things seem to be there. When I run the NOTES.EXE file with the command "wine notes.exe" there is a setup that is normal for the first run. I can go through all the setup but when it goes to apply the settings it gets to 60% and then crashes and freezes my terminal too.

I have tried to run other windows programs such as notepad and solitaire in wine and they work fine. If you need to see the messages that are displayed when I run the notes.exe file let me know and I will post them too. I thank anyone who can help me out with this. Once I get this to work I will be Windows free at work. Thanks

Here is what happens when I try and run NOTES.EXE with the command "wine notes.exe" Sorry that is is so long but I do not know what is good in there and what isn't so I figured I should put it all in there.

After it gets to this point the NOTES.EXE program crashes and the terminal freezes. In the NOTES.EXE program the program is in the "Creating Address Book" stage that runs on the initial running of the program. I am not possitive if it is trying to write things to the registries or to a .ini file but something is going wrong. Thanks for your help. Looking forward to your replies.

You should post your wine configuration. I'm wondering if notes.exe is attempting to write a config file somewhere that only root (not user) has access to. You got wine working with XP on your system? I just get an error... (Not that I really need wine as you've seen from my thread of app equivs, I can now do everything)

Here is a newbie question. Where do I find my wine configurations? I asumed wine.conf but when I did a locate on that it gave me 2 files. One was a file that came when I downloaded wine and the other appeared to be a manual on how to configure wine.

Thanks Mystified, I found it. you guys are making me post some awful big stuff here. Damn Lotus why can't they just make a Notes Client for Linux. Anyways here is my wine config file

There you go. I hope that make sense to some one cause booting back and for between OS sucks. Of ya Static, I am dual booting with WIN2K but in the wine setup I had it make it's own new dummy directories so that my WIN2K stuff which is FAT32 and not NTFS like it probably should be would stay safe and unchanged. Thanks again guys and girls.

Would it help anything if I copied my DLLs from WIN2K into the fake Windows directories that wine uses? I have made changes to my WINE config file but it hasn't helped. Are there any other steps that I could try to get this thing rolling? Thanks for the time.

I guess Cannonfodder is pretty busy these days. I tried copying the DLL's but no luck, the same things happen. I am out of ideas. Oh well I guess that I will just have to keep dual booting for now unless there is something that someone can think of. Thanks

What exactly is lotus notes? You never know - there could very well be different software that can save in that file format (like openoffice can save as m$Word, etc)

Anyway - can't you just install it in windows, then Wine the executable rather than wine the install AND the executable later anyway? Or are you trying to get it to install so that you can later be a windows free work area? Because you need windows installed for wine to work anyway... unless you rip the dll's maybe.
