satelliteuser083
During a mirror-update using easyurpmi, the process crashed while updating plf-nonfree urpmi.addmedia --update plf-free ftp://mandriva.cointech.net/pub/plf/mandriva/free/2006.0/i586 with synthesis.hdlist.cz Now I am informrd "urpmi database locked". I'm reluctant to simply delete the database; could someone tell me how else I am likely to solve the problem? Thanks.
Greg2
First of all, make sure it's not being used with ps -e | grep rpm If you have no output, then you can do (as root) rm -f /var/lib/urpmi/.LOCK and rm -f /var/lib/urpmi/.RPMLOCK that should fix it for you. scarecrow
Smart people use Smart, not Urpmi. I know many people will disagree with this (adamw in particular), but my experience with Mandriva has taught me that the new incarnation of urpmi is (at the very best) troublesome, and in general next to unusable. daniewicz
I have used Urpmi on Mandriva 2005 and 2008 without incident.
dan in Jersey
I added Urpmi a couple months ago, after reading on the forum that it was a good idea to do so, even though I didn't know exactly what I was doing , or why. I also received a "Urpmi database locked" message once, but after reboot, and using software update, it didn't return, so I didn't worry about it. Can someone please give me a brief description to what Urpmi is? I did some reading at the time, and although I found instruction on how to install, I didn't find a general explanation as to what it is. .....Thank you in advance, and sorry for the partial thread hyjack. daniewicz
Can someone please give me a brief description to what Urpmi is? I It is a tool allowing you to install software and updates known in the linux world as packages. The packages are stored within repositories on remote servers called mirrors.
