new hardware? [solved]

Thought I might give 2008.1 a go ...

 

new hardware ... dual core cpu, pci E video, pci express etc etc etc ..

 

alas no ..

 

I/O Error on device sr0 ...

boots from dvd, then can't find dvd .. grrrr

 

any tips?

 

edit: same issue with debian etch btw

I got the same problem with Fedora 8 also on my laptop.

 

Boot the CD and choose FTP/HTTP install. If you have second machine somewhere, mount the iso on second machine on loopback and then put it under vsftpd for anonymous access, and then just connect and install across internal LAN :)

Paul,

 

Just an idea........... You did not say which version of the installer you trying?? I have seen issues where the Free versions do not detect all hardware properly and sometimes either switching to one of the Mandriva One versions or the Power Pack version will.
