Guest solanjie
After clicking "reboot" on the mdk screen that is supposed to give you a list of window managers to choose from which to boot, I get an empty box. Clicking "OK" yields nothing. Back takes me back. I have to exit mandy by either choosing "Halt" which works or logging on as root in "failsafe" then "shutdown -r now" via cli. This is a new install. I tried updating, but that didn't fix the problem. Any help fixing this problem would be greatly appreciated.
Cannonfodder
You mean the OS options. WM window managers are in the login screen. This is happening due to a Mandrake bug in the Mandrake default KDM. To fix, it you need to switch to GDM. There is an option in Mandrake Control Center right now but I can't look at the moment.. Look for a setup screen for selecting a boot manager. tyme
the option should be in: MCC->Hardware->Display Manager Chooser or atleast it was back when i was still using 9.1, unless they changed it in one of the updates. you can choose from mdkkdm (the default-i've been told it's ugly and just flat out bites), kdm, gdm, and xdm that i remember. i suggest gdm, it's perty 8)
bvc
yes, but mdkkdm is the only one that gives a list of os's to reboot to. So this doesn't solve the prob.
Cannonfodder
I agree, it doesn't solve the problem. I don't think the feature really saves anyone much time though. Back in 9.1 RC1, I filed a bug with Mandrake on this issue. They claimed they fixed it, but somehow, its back :) I've seen the issue brought up frequently but still haven't seen any fixes to it.. bvc
What's the point anyway? It's only convenience is that after clicking reboot and selecting an os, you can walk away and come back to the booted, selected os. Which I guess would be nice if you switch a lot and make a lot of trips to the frig for beer :P I use gdm, and don't drink
