I have Mandrake 9.1 and have installed all of the Development tools. When I run ./configure i get the message "no such file or directory". Bash is installed as well as autoconf and automake. I have been looking for an answer unsuccessfully. Any ideas?

what program are you trying to install? it may not have a configure script. check and see if the file "configure" exists in the directory you are trying to run it in.

Thanks, you were right there was no configure file. The tarball already had a makefile. I have no excuse except being a former windows user I have lost the ability to think.
