dude67
I used to be able to play mania drive on this machine (PC #1) and I still have it installed from earlier. But for some reason it will not play anymore. It starts and gives the start up screen. But when I click on the "Story" gamemode it returns to my desktop... When trying to find the internet tracks, it says that I don't have any connection (I obviously do) and suggests that I may want to see the proxy configuration. But how and where...? I have also done a reinstallation (uninstalled and re-installed through MCC), but the problem remains. Anyone had the same problem? Here's how it looks when I started maniadrive from konsole. Greg2
It appears to be trying to download some files from the raydium repos, and it shouldn't have to do that to start the game. It looks to me like the data file package is too old for the maniadrive 1.2 binary that you're using. I've never played with this before, but now I'm curious about it. So I've compared the data included in the maniadrive-data 1.01 package from the Mandriva 2008 repos, with that of the maniadrive 1.2 data on maniadrive.raydium.org... they are indeed different. I would suggest removing (uninstalling) both the maniadrive and maniadrive-data packages from the repos. Then d/l and install the ManiaDrive 1.2-static binaries and data tar.gz from here: maniadrive.raydium.org Then extract the ManiaDrive-1.2-linux-i386.tar.gz to your ~/home directory, and rename it .ManiaDrive. Then do cd /home/dude67/.ManiaDrive/game && artsdsp ./mania_drive.static (you should remove the artsdsp if you're not using arts) If it works ok for you, simply add that line to your menu in games. I suppose I should add here that I've already tested this out for you, and it works. :)
dude67
Thanks Greg, I'll try it tonight. My almost 5 year old son thanks you in advance! (But I'm not going to tell him that his daddy couldn't solve this by himself... :P )
Greg2
That's fair enough, we'll keep it a MUB secret. :D
