tyme
did you check the iso md5 sums to make sure they were correct before booting? and did you burn the iso files straight to the CD or do the "burn image from ISO file" option?
Guest anon
More info needed. Have you checked the ISOs with the md5sums? Is your CD drive the first boot option? What happends when you reboot? blank screen? windoze boots?
Guest PhilLeeke
I'm a bit of a newbie so forgive my ignorance, but what is iso md5 sums and burn image from ISO file. All I did was down-load the 3 discs in RAR format from this site. I then unpacked them and then put them onto 3 CD-Rs. Phil
Guest PhilLeeke
I've made the floppy thing and I've tried booting FLOPPY/CD/HD and CD/HD, but either way all I get is a black screen with just a tiny " - " flashing up in the top left hand coner. Does it make any difference that I'm running damm XP?????? My system is a PRESARIO 710 EA, AMD DURON 933, 20 GB, 256 RAM
Guest anon
ISOs are image files, you need to choose that option when you burn or copy them onto your CDRs. You don't unpack them. To check the d-load was properly done check the md5sum, as your using windoze, you can use this tool ftp://ftp.mandrakeusers.com/pub/MD5app
Guest PhilLeeke
The only files that downloaded were RAR packages!?
tyme
here's a post in the FAQ section what will help you with doing the md5 sum checks: http://www.mandrakeusers.org/viewtopic.php?t=4638 as for the ISO files, you need to find a mirror that has them, they are named: Mandrake91-cd1-inst.i586.iso Mandrake91-cd2-ext.i586.iso Mandrake91-cd3-i18n.i586.iso you can get them from a variety of mirrors, i get mine from here: ftp://carroll.cac.psu.edu/pub/linux/distr...ns/mandrake/iso the other option, of course, is to check your local technology store (Staples and the like) and purchase the powerpack. Guest anon
The only files that downloaded were RAR packages!? There are no RAR packages on our ftp site. You should go here: ftp://ftp.mandrakeusers.com/pub/MDK-9.1-ISO Which will give you these ISO images: ftp://ftp.mandrakeusers.com/pub/MDK-9.1-I...1-inst.i586.iso ftp://ftp.mandrakeusers.com/pub/MDK-9.1-I...D2-ext.i586.iso ftp://ftp.mandrakeusers.com/pub/MDK-9.1-I...3-i18n.i586.iso ftp://ftp.mandrakeusers.com/pub/MDK-9.1-ISO/README.txt ftp://ftp.mandrakeusers.com/pub/MDK-9.1-I.../md5sums.91.asc
Guest PhilLeeke
Now I'm really getting confused. I've just been to the links that anon posted, but whenever I click on any of the packages a download window pops up asking me whether I want to open or save it. I click on save, but all I see is that it's a "WinRAR" file!!!!!! That is the same as I downloaded b4. When I unpacked them I got all the folders like "dosutils", "isolinux", "misc" etc and files like "RPM-GPG-KEYS" and "pkg-9.1-Bamboo-i586.idx" etc. If I double click on the CD-R icon on my desktop, I get a the Mandrake window asking me what I would like to do, "Install Mandrake" etc.
tyme
ok is it saving it as .rar or .iso? most likely winRAR wants to handle it since it is a packaged file. i would right click on the links and click "save as", and make sure the extension is .iso and not .rar. then, use your cd burning program to burn the cd's from an image. there should be an option in one of the menus that says "Burn CD from Image"
Guest PhilLeeke
It is saving as RAR
Guest PhilLeeke
I've tried all that you have sugested, but alas, all I keep getting is those b***y RAR things. It will not let me do as you told me
Guest anon
OK. try this, hold down the shift key and click on the link, if the save box says ISO or "all files" it should work.
Guest PhilLeeke
Sorry, Nooooop. It didn't work. What I can't understand is that I can see all the folders and files on the CD when I explore it. They seem to be identicle to those I used to see on the old Mandrake 7.2 CD I had
