A different card reader problem.

I have a 4 card USB reader from Lexar. It has slots for SMC, SD, CF and MS, whitch should be sda, sdb,sdc and sdd respectively.

At install, only sda was recognized, whitch is the SMC slot, (the only one I don't use) THe three I care about are not detected. I tried putting cards in the other slots and re-running hard-drake, but it didn't help.

I checked in /dev/ and there's no block devfices to mount for the others.

I know that i's possible for them all to work because when I boot knoppix fromt he CD, it reccognizes all the slots that have cards in them and puts a link on the KDe desktop. Of course, I don't want to have to boot a different OS every time I need to use my card reader.

So, knowing that I can make it work under a different distro, what info do I need to manualy make block entries if that's possible, and if not, what do I need to do to get it recognized.

Also, while they are recognized when booting fromt he knoppix CD, when I had a hard-drive install of knoppix, it didn't work. What's up?

Maybe this helps.

Do an

lsmod

in Knoppix. Then see if you can

modprobe

the driver you need in Mandrake...

If it runs in Knoppix, it should run on any Linux.

Easy thing ! U have to recompile the Kernel with SCSI: probe for all LUNs

(All USB-Storage devices are connected to the SCSI module)

This is not enabled by default in mandrake kernels.

Knoppix kernels use this feature by default.

If you have no multi LUN support in your kernel, u only see the

first LUN of a device, what works in most ways, but not for

most multi-card-readers.

hope that helps.

I've actualy been trying to compile my own kernel. Such a noob, I thought I had done so and posted saying how pleased I was, turns out I was till booting my old kernel. Oh well, at least I know the answer now and when I have time to build a good kernel I'll be sure to select that.
