hi,

i'm looking for a way to organise my music and videos.

i was using windows + itunes until now and appreciate the way itunes organised music into folders

now that i moved to mandriva, i am looking for a good tool to do the same.

amarok doesn't do it for me since it just stores the path to the music file, it doesn't automatically organise my folders like itunes does.

thanks in advance for any suggestions

Fortunately enough there is no Linux application which is doing destructive file manipulation like iTunes does... sorry for that.

The most iTunes-like UI is to be found at gmpc (an MPD frontend which is some one hundred times faster than iTunes) and QuodLibet. But none of them touches files and folders, or anything more than file tags. AFAIK only a Java jukebox named Jajuk does some sort of automated file manipulation, but it's both buggy and heavy on resources.

Putting forward your own opinion about itunes does not help to answer athomas' question. It is your perception that iTunes is "destructive" but that isn't necessarily the case...

I would recommend looking at Banshee if you want an iTunes clone - it will organises your music for you, but I'm not sure about actual file manipulation, I think it organises using an iTunes database without actually moving / renaming files (this is just an option that can be turned off in itunes if need be, by the way, and is useful to some people) but it is otherwise very similar and is also iPod-compatible.
