spinynorman
Barracuda Networks includes ClamAV in some of its enterprise solutions. Trend Micro has been trying to get Barracuda to either pay license royalties for including ClamAV or stop using ClamAV in its products. Apparently, McAfee, Symantec and Fortinet have all settled with Trend Micro already, although the details are not public. The patent is described as follows: To decrease the risk of a virus entering and/or leaving a network, the ‘600 Patent scans for viruses and other undesired software at the gateway of a network. Moreover, because viruses may be embedded in the content (such as, for example, email attachments and other content from the World Wide Web), the ‘600 Patent scans the content. Groklaw is assisting Barracuda with the search for prior art.
lavaeolus
seems to be another YASP (Yet Another Shi..y Patent), sorry but that sounds like patenting a doorman
ianw1974
It's not surprising when the majority of Trend Micros business is in gateway appliances that scan for viruses. And looks like they don't want anyone else to have a slice of the business. Monopoly or what? Everyone makes gateways, so why should only one company be allowed to do it and claim some patent violation as a way to block it. Since, they can't play the monopoly card, else they'll end up like what happened to Microsoft a while back.
