Sunnyr
Alright this is really weird, my desktop effects are no longer working after I did a reboot. I think it has to do with todays intel driver update as I have a intel 915 graphics card [moved from Software by spinynorman]

tyme
Please post your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file for us to review. also, what is the new driver version you are using? it's possible that the new driver has an issue with compiz, or vice versa. arctic
Just a hint: If the old driver works well with Compiz, don't update it. "Never change a winning team."

I am currently using the x11-driver-video-intel version 2.2.0-1mdv2008.0... here is my xorg: # File generated by XFdrake (rev 230776) Section "Extensions" Option "Composite" EndSection # ********************************************************************** # Refer to the xorg.conf man page for details about the format of # this file. # ********************************************************************** Section "ServerFlags" #DontZap # disable <Ctrl><Alt><BS> (server abort) #DontZoom # disable <Ctrl><Alt><KP_+>/<KP_-> (resolution switching) AllowMouseOpenFail # allows the server to start up even if the mouse does not work EndSection Section "Module" Load "dbe" # Double-Buffering Extension Load "v4l" # Video for Linux Load "extmod" Load "type1" Load "freetype" Load "glx" # 3D layer Load "dri" # direct rendering EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Keyboard1" Driver "kbd" Option "XkbModel" "hp2501" Option "XkbLayout" "us" Option "XkbOptions" "compose:rwin" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Mouse1" Driver "mouse" Option "Protocol" "ExplorerPS/2" Option "Device" "/dev/mouse" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "monitor1" VendorName "Plug'n Play" ModelName "MX50" HorizSync 30-54 VertRefresh 47-100 # TV fullscreen mode or DVD fullscreen output. # 768x576 @ 79 Hz, 50 kHz hsync ModeLine "768x576" 50.00 768 832 846 1000 576 590 595 630 # 768x576 @ 100 Hz, 61.6 kHz hsync ModeLine "768x576" 63.07 768 800 960 1024 576 578 590 616 EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "device1" Driver "intel" Option "DPMS" Option "XaaNoOffscreenPixmaps" "1" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "screen1" Device "device1" Monitor "monitor1" DefaultColorDepth 24 Subsection "Display" Depth 8 Modes "1024x768" "832x624" "800x600" "640x480" "480x360" "320x240" EndSubsection Subsection "Display" Depth 15 Modes "1024x768" "832x624" "800x600" "640x480" "480x360" "320x240" EndSubsection Subsection "Display" Depth 16 Modes "1024x768" "832x624" "800x600" "640x480" "480x360" "320x240" EndSubsection Subsection "Display" Depth 24 Modes "1024x768" "832x624" "800x600" "640x480" "480x360" "320x240" EndSubsection EndSection Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "layout1" InputDevice "Keyboard1" "CoreKeyboard" InputDevice "Mouse1" "CorePointer" Screen "screen1" EndSection
{BBI}Nexus{BBI}
Section "Device"I don't see Identifier "Intel 915" here. And I don't see Driver "i810" here. Sunnyr
I don't see Identifier "Intel 915" here. And I don't see Driver "i810" here. I don't see Device "Intel 915" here. Did you select the correct driver for your card when you did XFdrake? it was selected for me, XFdrake doesnt even have my card in it... those are the same settings that mandriva gave me from the start as my card seems to be generic according to xfdrake. So I assume if I add those lines to my xorg it might work? Edited January 29, 2008 by Sunnyr
tyme
I don't see Identifier "Intel 915" here. And I don't see Driver "i810" here. I don't see Device "Intel 915" here. Did you select the correct driver for your card when you did XFdrake? The "Identifier" names do not matter. You can name them whatever you want, as long as they are properly referenced (screen references the name of device 1 which is "device1"). So she does not need to change the Identifier lines - they are fine as they are. However, the driver may be the source of his problem. I don't have experience with intel cards, so I'd have to do some research to ensure it was the right driver - it may be using a generic, non-3d driver. I would suggest, Sunnyr, that you try changing Driver to "i810".
Sunnyr
okay... by the way I am a girl edit: nope that did not work at all, I was forced into a terminal session with that. I am thinking now that I need to downgrade the intel driver to the one that came with my installation, is there any way to use the live CD as a repository? I did that once for ubuntu
Patkos Csaba
Same problem here, intel 910 (i think) ... it seemes that other people with intel cards have the same problem: http://forum.mandriva.com/viewtopic.php?t=...a52d51b2db3a510 The problem is 99% NOT compiz related becouse glxgears and glinfo gives these error messages: libGL error: drmMap of framebuffer failed (Invalid argument) libGL error: reverting to (slow) indirect rendering I can't find a solution yet, but hope we'll be rotateing the cube soon :)
dexter11
No the live CD can't be used as a repository because it contains one big compressed image instead of packages. I don't know how Ubuntu worked around this. Anyway if you need a media to use as an offline install source you need the regular install DVD\CDs. dude67
so unless I buy the powerpack I cant downgrade then... Sure you can. As dexter11 said, you can use the Mandriva Free DVD (or set of CDs). If you don't have it, you can DL it from Mandriva.com. At their download page choose Mandriva Free (the Mandriva One is the default choise in that page). Mandriva Free is the full version as Mandriva One is the "live version".
