new ati (7.12)

The new ati drivers are realllllyyy slow when aiglx is turned on, how should they be configured correctly for an x600 (mobility) radeon? I believe there have been some big changes in atis driver and Xfdrake doesnt do a good job yet.

 

Could someone explain the difference between the opensource ati and radeon drivers?

Our forum at Archlinux is also filled with complaints about the new ATi driver... and its not just about slowness.

It seems that they (ATi) will never learn their lesson.

I noticed. How do I disable the framebuffer console because it hangs the computer, only way is to restart is?

Just open your /boot/grub/menu.lst config file and remove the "vga=7xx" argument.

Of course your new VT will look ugly and with huge fonts, but...
