esulcer
I am just running the F8 Live cd, the Gnome one, it's quite nice, snappy to. That window decoration is fugly! Yeah, the default one, I guess it is a bit, but beauty is in the eye of the . . . and all that. I always bring my own anyway, Glossy+Lush FTW, don't know why they don't have Lush in there from default, but never mind.
Gul Dukat
I'm planning on installing Fedora 8 on several systems this weekend. But I've been testing the Test-versions from day 1. Are there already some people who got codec-buddy to work? Just a bit curious. I couldn't seem to get it working in any of the Test-releases. iphitus
iphitus, I am sorry that the general concensus does not meet your approval :P Pretty common actually. I think the fedora modified tango icons are gorgeous, I nicked em from fedora 7 and have been using them under Arch for months now. The gtk is nice and tidy. But that window theme.... For a start, look at the corners, rounded corners in metacity are a big no no, they generally look terrible. Secondly, the close button is pushed a ridiculous amount to the left, however the menu on the opposite end isnt. This results in an inconsistent and unbalanced appearance. Also is annoying, for me habit is to go to the far top-right corner to close an application, where the close button typically is, however this one is just... pointlessly shifted. The colour, I think it's terrible, but that's more personal choice an anything. And finally, it simply doesnt look professional. James
Reiver_Fluffi
Every criticism you made is either a matter of your personal choice or unjustified, I do not see how that translates to common opinion. If it were common opinion were that round edges were "generally terrible" then why are there so many, and that some are popular? You criticise the button placement, saying that it is inconsistent, inconsistent with what? Other themes? What was wrong with innovation and orgininality (although not necessarily pure in this case)? You remark that the appearance was unbalanced, sorry but by virtue of the fact that there is one button on one side, and three on the other, it is natural for metacity themes to be unbalanced! It might not be the best theme in the world, but it doesn't merit it being described with one derogatory word. JMHO
scarecrow
I have to agree with Iphitus. The window theme looks like crap, at the very least. Oh, and I'm also using a modded Tango icon theme on my default desktop (Kdemod under Arch Linux). Edited November 9, 2007 by scarecrow
iphitus
Every criticism you made is either a matter of your personal choice or unjustified, I do not see how that translates to common opinion. and it's just my humble opinion too :) As for me calling saying it's a "common opinion" -- i meant that I have seen it expressed in many places by other people. Though I don't see how that theme is "innovative" James

jlc
I don't like the window theme either and use Glossy + Fedora Icons and I think it looks much better, imho. I like the backgrounds too.
