Dyslexic
Sounds like you're missing some codecs. Download this file and extract it to /usr/lib/win32: http://www.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/releases/c...0061022.tar.bz2 It's far more complete than the codecs bundled in plf. Those codecs should make all your media players able to play pretty much any video file. The only exceptions I've found so far is audio not working on videos recorded by the CDMA version of the Treo 650 and WMV9/10 files not playing at all on 64-bit players. I haven't investigated this closely as most of the porn out there is not in WMV9/10. Edited November 6, 2007 by Dyslexic

Dyslexic
Open a console and enter the following (when asked for a password, enter the root password): cd /usr/lib/win32 su tar xvjf <path_to_your_download_location_including_the_filename> If /usr/lib/win32 doesn't exist, you'll need to create it before extraction (tar -xvjf): md /usr/lib/win32 Edited November 6, 2007 by Dyslexic

Guest apeace
I tried this fix, and it does not work for me. Is there some additional step that needs be done to make the video player recognize these codecs? I am using Kaffeine, FYI. When I play mpg videos, the sound plays but not the video. Also, the video icon has a preview of the first frame in Konquerer.
scarecrow
Normally xine (which is the kaffeine backend ) uses the win32codecs present in your system, so it should work (unless it's compiled with nonstandard switches). Have you tried mplayer/smplayer/kmplayer instead? (or vlc). Is any of them working? IMO smplayer is the easiest to use (for a nwebie, anyway) ond also one of the prettiest video players out there.
