Rama Murthy
Hi, I brought an external hard drive for my Dell inspiron 1501 laptop. I connect the 750GB external hard drive to my laptop using a USB cable. The problem is when I try connecting it, Mandriva 2000 says "Error mounting the volume". I am able to boot to windows XP and use the external hard drive. The box said "The external hard drive is formatted in NTFS for my convinience". Now, do I need to do something to make it work with my mandriva? Request you to please help me as I have huge volume of music in my linux partion which I want to copy it into the external harddrive. Thank you for your time.
lavaeolus
maybe you need to install the ntfs-3g package on mandriva should have read more carefully, since you want to write to the partition, you definitely need ntfs-3g, install it via urpmi or rpmdrake, after that you should be able to read from and write to your harddisk Edited November 5, 2007 by lavaeolus
Rama Murthy
Hi, Thanks for the reply. I tried doing urpmi ntfs-g. Either this update media is misconfigured, and in this case you should use the Software Media Manager to remove it and re-add it in order to reconfigure it, either it is currently unreachable and you should retry later. Is the URPMI database down or something like that? or is it a problem with my PC?
AussieJohn
It means the database mirror site is down. In MCC delete the site and select another Mirror. Actually the package may already be on your Install DVD or CD-ROMs. Cheers. John.

scoonma
Please follow this thread. In case you're still having trouble, we should have a look at your /etc/fstab file.
scarecrow
It says "Invalid mount option when attempting to mount the volume." You should load fuse as root first, and put "fuse" at your modules preload list. Edited November 8, 2007 by scarecrow
