Firefox Browser and RealPlayer: No Sound

I prefer using RealPlayer to play RealPlayer videos (rather than Mplayer): both embedded videos and those launched separately in Realplayer itself.

Sound works for me in RealPlayer on another laptop in MDV2007Spring. In MDV2008, I don't have sound for RealPlayer (although I do have sound in web videos that use Flashplayer).

How do I get sound to work in the Realplayer videos, please?

Sincerely,

Richard L.

Hello there, I am going to ask a silly question here but have you checked the sound is NOT muted on the player window. In fact do you see the audio slider at all. I use both Realplayer and Helix with Realplayer codecs without any problems.

Other than that no idea sorry!

Hi SilverSurfer60,

Thanks for your quick reply. Yes, the sound is not muted; the audio slider is three quarters of the way to maximum by default. I'm very puzzled by this.

I also have this problem with both flashplayer and RealPlayer on PCLinuxOS2007 after re-installing it.

Realplayer works just fine in LinuxMint3.1 Celena (gnome, although I prefer KDE).

Mandriva is my favorite, and I would like to get sound working in Realplayer.

Thanks Scarecrow....How do I find out if the module is loaded? Is there a command for this?

Richard L.

Yes, my dear.. of course it is!

lsmod

This displays all loaded modules, no matter if they are loaded wwith user or admin rights.

If the module I mentioned is not loaded, then safest is opening a console, being root ( "su" - etc. ) and then

modprobe foo

...or, in your case:

modprobe snd-pcm-oss

Of course, if that module is already loaded there's no need for re-loading it... the fault is somewhere else.

Unfortunately, I am baffled by all the details in KMIX.

There is a tab called "Switches", but it does not have Video on it.

The Video is on the "Input" tab. There is also an "Output" tab.

Which items do I need to turn off under each of the three tabs?

Thanks,

Richard
