I get this when I open Rpmdrake. No other apps are running.

How do I fix this?

You need to manually unlock the database.

This error occurs when two different install processes try to get access to the database (query is no problem though). In most cases this is indicating an urpmi process which stalled, was cancelled badly or is still running in the background.

 

In a situation like this I'd either find that task and completely remove it or resume it and stop the latter one.

I think the mdkapplet is causing this. It is set to check for updates at certain intervals. If you open the urmpi GUI while the mdkapplet is working, it will get locked.

Yes, it does do this. But, normally the database will also unlock when it is done, usually 1-2 minutes.
