Game cd's really weird (new problem!)

Hello, my first post on these forums.

 

My problem is with some Windows game cd:s, Worms 2 cd and Call of Duty cd 2. When I open them in Konqueror, it shows multiple files (all files, no directiories). It seems that Mandriva just can't read the information on the cd; the "files" are named with some squares(mostly) and then some special signs like €, % and $. So, for example when installing CoD via Wine it fails when I have to change the cd, and Worms 2 can't be installed at all. These cd:s are readable in Windows, and when I used openSUSE I had no problem installing Worms 2 with wine.

 

What could be causing this?

 

EDIT: Solved the problem by removing "iocharset=utf8" from /etc/fstab -file.

EDIT2: Well well, now it DOES show Worms 2 and Cod cd 2 files and directories, but now it seems to think that CoD cd 1 has no files! It does so even when I add the "iocharset=utf8" back in place.

EDIT3: I'm going nuts!!! By editing the options of hda (it calls my dvd-recorder that) I managed to get the disc 1:s files back. But now it doesn't understand disc 2:s files, even with iocharset removed: one is called ????P?? as for example.

I'm no expert, but I had similar problems when I was copying some mp3 CDs to my HD. The system showed only a few music files on each CD (after the first CD) and I thought these CDs were corrupted as they were already several years (5+) old.

 

But then I realized that if I unmounted the CD and remounted each one I got all the music files I had on the CDs. So my tip is to try to unmount the CD and then mount it anew.

Thanks so much! At least Worms 2 cd seems to work after unmounting and then mounting again. I'll try to do that with CoD too.

It'd still be great if someone could advice how to get them working without the un- and remounting.

I am not certain on this but I think it is because the CD burn process sets the cd to unmounted because the process requires this. So when the process has been completed and you have closed down the burning application, the cd is still unmounted. Therefore it requires remounting the CD to be able to read it.

 

I think this is why K3B leaves the disc tray open when it finishes a burn so the disc can be remounted by simply closing the cd tray containing the CD.

 

Again, as I said in another post, it seems that there is a concern to shave of a few seconds off doing everything as if our lives depend upon it. I don't think so.
