Did you ever find a solution to this issue CrashDamage? I'm experiencing the same behavior and I'm pulling my hair out! I had been using bcm43xx with Mandriva 2008.0 just fine when I decided to reinstall my system for other reasons. Now I can't get the wlan card working again with bcm43xx or ndiswrapper 1.48 or 1.52 (from cooker).

It is a Dell 1390 14e4:4311 (rev 01). I'm using kernel 2.6.22.18-laptop-1mdv and bcm43xx-fwcutter-006-2mdv2008.0. I tried using the bcmwl5.sys from dell's r151517 package but got the "this is a version 4 driver" error message. I then tried using wl_apsta-3.130.20.0.o from openwrt.org as suggested on several forums which fwcutter worked on just fine, but I'm still getting the "Unable to find network interface for the selected device (using bcm43xx driver)." error.

Anyone have any thoughts?
