Guest george walsh
Currently using (after a fashion) gdmsetup 2.19.4. I am able to set a custom welcome, but one character at a time - in other words the gdm display is refreshed after the input of each caharcter in the string. I have used this particular login because this is a development machine and it saves me time when I want to login to a specific group of 7 users. In the past I have identified pngs from /usr/share/mdk/faces and moved each into /usr/share/faces , renaming them to [username].png. Used to work fine. BEFORE a system boot, the png faces are ignored and defaulted, whether the default option itself is on or off. AFTER a system boot, the faces remain defaulted AND the Custom Welcome String is replaced by the default 'Welcome'. I should add that this system uses only the GNOME desktop so there is no confusion between it and KDE which has been mentioned before in this connection.
