I have just ported 2/3 computers that used to be XP to MDK 9.0.

It is a great OS and everyone needs a pat on the back.

But i can not get the network to work. The XP computer has the following protocles:

Clnt for microsoft Networks

File + Printer Sharing

NWlink NetBios

NWlink IPX/SPX/NetBios compatible protocle

Internet Protocle (TCP/IP)

I have the proxy working, but can anyone tell me how to get accsess to my WXP shares.

Thanks,

Luk

first of all: have you set up static IPs for your machines?

try to ping each other. if that works you can go further and install "samba" via software manager... you can configure "lisa" in your kde control center to look at the windows shares via the "lan" tab in konqueror. theres a little assistant for this, just keep the default values.

ok i´ll try...

do you know anything about ip adresses? every computer in your local area network (lan) has to get one ip adress assigned. this enables the computers to communicate with each other using the tcp/ip protocol which is also used on the internet.

since you said your proxy is working, i assume the ip adresses are set correctly. so your only problem is to get access to the shared folders and printers on your xp "server" ?

on your Linux Machines boot into KDE (or any other windowmanager...)

open the menu and select "what to do" -> "administer the system" -> "add/remove programs"

this should open the softwaremanager.

search for "samba" and install it

that almost was it

try "smb://computername" in your konqueror
