I have a E220 with me at the moment, but I haven't tried it in Linux. It works well in OS X though, so that gives me hope.

When I have a moment I'll see if I can get it up and running and let you know...

Well the most useful bit of info I've found so far is over here.

The main problem with the E220 is that it is both a storage device and modem. But if you have a recent Linux kernel this is not a problem. The modem portion is set up as a generic serial device and can then be addressed via a dialler such as wvdial.

I could probably get it working in Gentoo, but this would unfortunately not help with Mandriva much, since the Mandriva kernel is a law unto itself. Use the link above and Google, and let us know what you find ;)

isn't there a GUI-way to do this

Not really, no. But don't be afraid of the CLI - it really isn't that daunting and at some stage in your Linux experience you are going to have to do it.

Give it a try - we're here to help when you get stuck ;)

Hi!

I've just tested HUAWEI E220 on Mandriva Free2007Spring with kernel 2.6.17. Well, it works for me.

1. Mandriva users need to install wvdial and make.

2. Once you do that, go to this website:

http://oozie.fm.interia.pl/pro/huawei-e220/

3. Download huawei.tar.bz2,

4. ... and from command line do the following:

$ tar xjvf huawei.tar.bz2

$ cd huawei

$ su

# make install_mandriva

... and follow GUI instructions.

I hope it helps!

Best Regards,

OOZIE
